Find yourself again after Baby!

"I feel so uncomfortable in my own skin."

"I want to pass on a healthy mindset but I just don't know how."

"Why has it been so hard to get my old body back?"

"Other people bounce back right away, what is wrong with me?"

"Am I a bad mom for not liking my the body I'm in?"
These thoughts can be unbearable at times
They keep you from looking at your body as strong, life-giving and nurturing, instead you get stuck in all of the negatives when you look in the mirror.
You see they way you think, talk, interact with your body is affecting your mental health, but it just feels like you are stuck in a vicious cycle.
You start to cry because it just feels like there is no way out.
Imagine for a second...
-
Feeling confident and balanced
-
Engaging in hobbies without thinking about what you look like
-
Being able to be completely present with your children
-
Feeling grateful for your body and its abilities
-
Feeling like you are the best mom you can be
My Approach to Therapy

My clients get a treatment tailored specifically to them because, even though we are all in this together, we all have unique situations that deserve a unique treatment.

I dedicate my all to you because you deserve it and I expect the same from you when working towards your goals.

How do I know postpartum therapy will work for me?Starting therapy can be a huge leap of faith. We put our trust into a process that has a lot of unknowns. One of the reasons I use treatments that have been proven to be effective (evidenced-based treatments) is to take some of the unknowns away. The treatments we will be using, CBT and DBT, has been proven to be effective for thousands and thousands of people. Now that being said, there are still a lot of factors besides the type of treatment in predicting success. Do you and your therapist mesh well? Do you feel like you can trust them and open up to them about issues that are embarrassing or shameful? Are you ready to feel the pain that comes along with feeling better? Do you and the therapist have the same availability so that you can consistently show up to your appointments? Is it the right time to put effort into changing outside of the therapy room? If you are able to answer yes to all of these questions, your likelihood of seeing change will be increased greatly.

What does therapy for postpartum look like?We start off with an intake. This is our first session and will be for an assessment and summary of what you are experiencing in this postpartum period. In our second session we will set goals that are relevant and realistic. We will set 1-3 goals to achieve in the next 3 months. We will then create a treatment plan around these goals to make sure we achieve them. Each session after that has the same structure. The first 5-10 minutes are to set an agenda for the session and to review your assignment for the previous week. For the majority of the session we will be getting deeper, processing and learning tools to help us in our day to day. The last 10 minutes will be reserved for pulling out one specific skill, thought, or activity to focus on for the week between sessions. The more you engage in the therapy learning outside of the therapy session, the faster you will see change.

How long do I need postpartum therapy for? While the typical length of treatment for my clients is anywhere from 3 months to a year, it is hard to say because it is completely dependent on each individual person and what they are coming to therapy for. It is dependent on the severity of symptoms, how many goals you have, how dedicated you are to implement the changes we talk about in therapy, and more! Predicting length of treatment when working with me: An in depth assessment and goal setting to determine the amount of work needed. Setting realistic and achievable goals for every 3 months in treatment Treatment that aligns with goals to keep on track Reviewing and reassessing of goals at each 3 month mark. Replacing goals with new ones once they are achieved. Once we have met all of our goals, that means you have completed your treatment. We will have some follow up sessions a few months apart from each other just to make sure we are maintaining our goals, and then you will graduate treatment!

What does therapy for couples with children look like?I use the Gottman Method which is a treatment that is wholistic and is proven to be effective for thousands and thousands of couples. There are 4 stages of treatment that are a little different than other treatments. First: Assessment - We conduct an in-depth assessment of your relationship. This ensures that we are working on the core of the issues rather than the symptoms of the issues. - This process takes 4 sessions. Ideally, completed within a week or 2 so that treatment can begin quicker. Session 1: This is with both members of the couple and will be a brief summary of your relationship. Session 2 and 3: These sessions will be with each individual separated from their partner. This is your chance to be completely honest about yourself and your feelings about the relationship without worrying how the other person will respond. Between the first session and these sessions, you will fill out an in-depth questionnaire of the relationship and it will be reviewed in this session. *we do not hold secretes. We will also work towards sharing information with each other* Session 4: In this session, we come together as a couple again. We review everything from the previous sessions and go over the results of the questionnaire. We will also be making a treatment plan in this session. Second: Treatment We get to work! We usually start with connection, and communication. Each session, we will review what the relationship has been like between sessions and start wherever you need to for the session. We will learning tools and skills to be successful in each of the 7 principles that make marriage work. If you want to read about these 7 principles, check out this blog post. Third: Follow Up Once we are done with treatment, we have a few 3 month check ins to make sure that we are maintaining the benefits of treatment even after it is completed. We will be touching up on skills and figuring out ways to be more effective as a couple. Forth: Graduation You are complete with your treatment! If you hit a rough patch down the road, you can always come back for a refresher!
